The Aesthetics of Design

Some basic concepts taught in interior design school are color, theme, and balance. Understanding how to use a color palette to design a space is essential. Tying in the floorplan, lighting design, materials, and objects so they “work together” is another critical step. Mastering the art of adding just enough elements to a space so that its function and style are maximized is key as well.

But interior design is also about tactics. What’s the best foot traffic pattern? How many light bulbs do you need for a room, and what type? Where’s the best place to put a door? Designers need the tools to make these decisions, and 3D design software can help make these technical issues get resolved smoothly.

The Technical Aspects of Design

It’s true that it helps to be an original person with an eye for style to work in interior design. And although interior design is often associated with the concepts of creativity and aesthetics, there is a fair amount of technical expertise required to be successful in the industry. One of these areas is software.

A software company based in Malaysia just unveiled the latest edition of an alternative interior design software program called “InteriCAD 6000.” The software allows designers to design much more than floorplans and lighting, but also materials and objects, and produce photo-realistic images for presentations. (Learning 3D design software, such as CAD, is a great benefit of interior design school, too.)
