As though a personal sanctuary, bedrooms also allow one to relax, recharge and rejuvenate for the next day.

For these reasons, it is thus important for bedrooms to be able to promote harmonious flow of “nourishing and sensual energy,” according to Rodika Tchi, principal of Tchi Consulting, a professional feng shui consulting firm.

“A good bedroom is a room that invites you, lures you in, excites and calms at the same time,” Tchi says.

Simple, practical tips

So to attain that “perfect state of harmony and balance in the bedroom,” Tchi offers a few simple, practical feng shui tips you may follow.

• Let go of the TV, computer or exercise equipment. Good feng shui energy is destroyed when these electronic items are present in the bedroom.

• Open the windows to keep air fresh and full of oxygen. You cannot have good feng shui if the air in your room is stale and full of pollutants. Also, plants in the bedroom are not good feng shui, unless bedroom is fairly large and plants are located far from the bed.

• Make several levels of lighting available or use a dimmer switch to adjust the energy accordingly. Since light is the strongest manifestation of energy, good, appropriate lighting is very important. However, candles are the most recommended bedroom lighting, but be sure to buy candles with no toxins.

• Use soothing colors to achieve a good feng shui balance in bedroom. Best feng shui colors for the bedroom are the so-called “skin colors” which vary from pale white to rich chocolate brown. Choose colors within this range that will work best for your bedroom decor.

• Choose the images for your bedroom wisely, because images carry powerful feng shui energy. Choose images that you want to see happening in your life. Unless you enjoy being sad and lonely, do not use these images in your bedroom.

Tchi adds that one should also take note of bed positions. Beds should be easily approachable from both sides. Feng shui also recommends to have two bedside tables (one on each side) and to avoid having the bed in a direct line with the door.

“A good looking and well-balanced bed is important in creating a perfect feng shui bedroom. Good mattress, solid headboard and high-quality sheets from natural fibers are likewise important in creating harmonious feng shui energy,” Tchi notes.

She also advises to keep all bedroom doors closed at night―be it the closet doors, the en-suite bathroom door or the bedroom door―as this will allow the best and most nourishing flow of energy to strengthen your physical health, as well as the health of your relationship.
