Two Islands, a team of architects and designers from London, has won the first prize of $25,000 in the international Flat Lot Competition for their innovative and futuristic design, a temporary summer pavilion called 'Floating House'. The structure, a Tudor-style house equipped with reflective panels, which seems to float atop a mirrored pedestal, is located on Flint's (Michigan) central downtown parking lot and will be made public at Flint Art Walk as of June 14 through autumn.
The aim of the competition was to create a temporary structure that would take up maximum eight parking spaces, and could be a home to public programs, while providing amenities such as seating, shade, cooling devices, and a stage for performances.
